Greyhound Friends corporate board member Kathy Mahoney sends dogs to disreputable trainer

Greyhound Friends corporate board member Kathy Mahoney sent Greyhound Friends dogs to a place called Balance Your Bully K9 Training while Balance Your Bully co-owner Amy Egeland was facing allegations of animal cruelty.

Mahoney had two Greyhound Friends dogs, Cece and Rebel, transferred into the hands of Balance Your Bully after it was already public knowledge that serious allegations had emerged about Amy Egeland and her treatment of animals. The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources had found that Egeland and the former assistant animal control officer in Fitchburg conspired to euthanize a dog named Capone in violation of state law requiring that strays be held for seven days and the owners be notified. The agency called the incident “extremely disturbing.”

Egeland and her boyfriend Sean Stanton were also operating Balance Your Bully without a license, after they allegedly refused the police and animal control officials access to some of the kennels.

When Lt. Alan Borgal, Director of Law Enforcement for the Animal Rescue League of Boston, informed Greyhound Friends Board of Directors members that there was a criminal investigation into Balance Your Bully owners Sean Stanton and Amy Egeland, Ms. Mahoney replied "There are two sides to every story."

Soon afterwards, the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals filed criminal animal cruelty and neglect charges against Amy Egeland and Sean Stanton for leaving a muzzle on a dog 24/7 for days and failing to seek vet care for the dog when the muzzle caused a severe infection.

Egeland and Stanton failed to show up in court for the hearing, and allegedly fled the state.

Many questions remain:

Will Egeland and Stanton ever stand trial?

Why wasn't Greyhound Friends concerned about the dogs they left at Balance your Bully?

What became of Cece, Rebel, and Carol, the three dogs Greyhound Friends sent there?

This is only the latest revelation in a string of problems uncovered at Greyhound Friends--including the neglect of sick and injured dogs
